Today all students will share their college essay with the class. We have been working on descriptive writing instead of narrative-tell me writing. We will have small groups to share essays and then the group will select the one they feel describes the best. This essay will be shared with the class. I will be giving two assignment that are important assignment, however, due to not technology in the classroom, you will be required to do the research and complete the essay on your time. The first will be a career chart and the second one is a career comparison essay. The essay is a research essay that is due at the end of this week. You have a template on the class website and you have hardcopy directions. The research must be done on your time. For those of you that do not have a computer, you will need to come see me so we can work something out.

Today all students will be effective communicators. Today all students will help develop a survey for a sophomore collaborative project. We will be working in small groups to create four questions to put onto a survey regarding school uniforms. The rationale behind this assignment is to help build a strong argument for or against uniforms.
Directions: each group will discuss uniforms-one person will take notes, one person will be the time keeper, one person will guide the discussion, and one person will work the computer seeking information about school uniforms. AT the end of the hour your group will share with the instructor your four questions, notes on how you arrived at your four questions, and supporting evidence from the internet regarding school uniforms. This assignment will take the place for the career comparison essay, so be productive and contribute to the whole group. All work must be submitted with all names on the shared work.
Today all students will be quality producers. We will be finishing up on the recommendation letters and sending the email to two instructors asking for them to complete the performance evaluation.
On another note, we as a school are extremely low on our HSA scores. I will be spending the next week or two working on reading with all of you. So, this means we will do reading at the beginning of the period and then a lesson at the end. The reading program I have is based on your level of reading, so you will start where you are at. Currently, we are at 65% and as a school we must be at 75%. Please try to take the tests very seriously.

Today all students will create a recommendation letter, send an email out to their instructors asking them to complete a performance evaluation, and for the seniors and juniors you will be sending out an email asking for a recommendation letter from the school staff. The goal behind this assignment is to look at where you are at with your courses and then determine where you want to be in two years. You have completed your freshman and your sophomore years, and have only two years left to go before you will have obtained your diploma. The next two years are yours to plan, so make sure you select the courses that fit your game plan, not your school's, the counselor's, the registrar's or your parents...YOURS. Today all students will complete the freshman requirements and the college admissions. You will be providing the website with accurate and "real" information, so do not put in misinformation. If you are not sure about what to put in, leave it blank or put in one letter and come back to it after you have the information.
Today all students will be community contributors. Today all students will go on a campus tour. As potential member of the James Campbell University, you have the opportunity to meet some of the staff members and hear what they have to say about the courses they offer to potential students. You will also be given the opportunity to go on a field trip to the Honolulu Convention Center to hear what other colleges have to offer you.
Today all students will be ethical technology users. Today all students will finish Personality/Interest Essay. You will need to have completed your personality profile worksheet, to have taken two personality tests (humanmetrics and Big Five), completed the Journal write 1 about personality tests in the job application process, and have completed your Personality/Interest Essay. All of this work we completed in our first week of class.
This week we will begin looking at James Campbell University website. Tomorrow we will be taking a tour of the campus and meet some very important people that will help you begin your application process to be accepted as a student at JCU. You will be filling our a college application through the Common Application (JCU is a private college, thus we will use the Common Application). To complete the college application process, you will be obtaining a copy of your transcript, test scores, recommendation letter, scholarship application, and personal statement.
For Monday we will look at the JCU website, do grade checks, and complete the Personality Essay by obtaining three peer reviews of your essay. To obtain these reviews, you will need to share your essay through Google Drive. To obtain the email addresses, I will help you by counting off. Peer review will follow the rubric supplied at the end of this notice.
We are going to be doing our accreditation process for JCHS for this week. Each of you should know what you are working on, why you are doing the work you are doing, and to what end the course helps you become productive members of the community.
Please come to class with the mindset of getting your portfolio completed on time. The majority of you are doing just fine, those of you that are struggling a bit, please lean on your classmates for support, and always feel free to ask me for additional instructions.

This essay requires the student to analyze two different personality tests, and then for them to decide if personality tests should be used as a tool to determine if someone is qualified for a job.
Please read the journal article (write one paragraph stating your opinion), complete the Big 5 Personality test (copy results and put them at the bottom of your humanmetrics results), and then write your essay. Remember that your essay requires three peer comments and your parent's signature.

We will be working under the personal tab for the tests and under the career tab for the essay. I will be holding a small essay development group session if you need a little bit of help putting the essay together or completing the personality worksheet.
I will be having you write your name under your four-letter results so you can work together to analyze the personality results from the humanmetrics test. Some of you will be working on the Big 5 tests, and we will be waiting for the ID numbers so you can register for the myfuturehawaii site.
Folder: please put your results from the humanmetrics, the personality worksheet, and the directions for the interest/personality essay into your folder. Your rough draft must also be put into your folder. We will be working on this work for the next two days. Essay is due on Monday, so make sure you get emails from at least three students in class. You must have your peer comments (3), and your parent's signature at bottom of your essay.
